Two new energy storage projects are set to be developed in Udine (25 MW) and Ferrara (486 MW).

The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) has issued two single authorizations (AU) for the construction of battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a combined capacity of 511 MW.

EG Tulipano Srl, a subsidiary of the U.S.-based company Enfinity Global, has received authorization for a 486 MW BESS facility in the municipality of Fiscaglia. According to the decree, the initial application – submitted in August 2024 – envisaged a 288 MW plant, later updated in October 2024 to include an additional 198 MW.

The project involves the installation of 464 containers, each housing six inverters and battery racks, as well as 120 RMU containers equipped with LV/HV step-up transformers and HV electrical panels for connection to the user cabins. A control and operations building will also be constructed on-site.

The ministry’s authorization outlines several conditions, including measures to mitigate dust emissions and a requirement for a detailed noise impact assessment.

In addition, Greenstone 1 Srl, part of the Lombardy-based Renantis Group, has received authorization for a 25 MW BESS project in the municipality of Buja (UD). The application for this project was submitted in June 2023.

The Buja facility will include 48 prefabricated cabinets containing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, eight cabinets housing inverters, and eight LV/MV transformers.
